NEW DELHI: In a tragic turn of events, a powerful earthquake of 5.9 magnitude struck northwestern China’s Gansu-Qinghai border on Friday, leaving a trail of devastation with loss of lives and widespread damage.
As of now, there have been 86 reported fatalities and 96 injuries resulting from the earthquake in China’s Gansu-Qinghai border region according to a report by state news agency outlet Xinhua.
The outlet reported that rescue operations are underway following a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that caused significant tremors in parts of Gansu and neighboring Qinghai province. The quake occurred at 11:59 pm local time on Monday (1559 GMT).
