LGBTQ: Biden’s LGBTQ adoption rule faces resistance from Republican congressman

[ad_1]

In a bid to counter the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recent rule aimed at prioritizing LGBTQI+ acceptance in adoptive homes, Representative Jim Banks, R-Ind., has introduced a new bill. The legislation, titled the Sensible Adoption for Every (SAFE) Home Act, seeks to prevent child welfare agencies from denying prospective adopters based on their refusal to comply with a child’s LGBTQ status.
Speaking exclusively to Fox News, Rep. Banks emphasized the need to address what he views as the Biden administration’s hindrance to countless children finding loving homes. According to Banks, the administration’s focus on ensuring homes that accept a child’s sexual orientation or gender identity overlooks the concerns of parents who oppose irreversible sex change procedures on minors.
“This isn’t a liberal or conservative issue. This is just plain wrong, and every sane person knows it,” Banks declared.
The HHS rule, announced recently, mandates child welfare agencies to ensure LGBTQI+ identified children receive suitable placements and services conducive to their well-being. It aims to shield LGBTQI+ youth from hostile or abusive environments based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Caregivers, under the proposed rule, are required to undergo comprehensive training to meet the unique needs of LGBTQI+ children.
Rep. Banks’ SAFE Adoption Act directly challenges this rule, stipulating that child welfare agencies and federally funded groups cannot deny funds to prospective parents who resist a child’s stated LGBTQ status. This includes situations where parents refuse medical, surgical, pharmacological, or psychological treatments inconsistent with the child’s biological sex.
The legislation comes amid a broader national debate, with several states already passing bills prohibiting gender-affirming surgeries on transgender youth. Earlier this year, Rep. Banks led a House bill allowing individuals who underwent transgender surgeries as minors to sue the responsible medical practitioners.
As the legislative landscape evolves on issues of LGBTQI+ rights and adoption, the SAFE Adoption Act adds another dimension to the ongoing discourse, highlighting the complex intersection of parental rights, child welfare, and evolving societal norms.
