‘They all need to die now’: Pro-Palestinian protesters clash with Israel supporters in New York

NEW DELHI: Pro-Palestine demonstrators clashed with supporters of Israel for the second consecutive day in Manhattan on Monday, exchanging threats of violence and incendiary remarks. The confrontations occurred near the Israeli Consulate, just a block west of the United Nations headquarters in Midtown, while Israel continued its retaliatory strikes on Palestinian-held territory in the Gaza Strip following the weekend attacks by Hamas terrorists, the New York Post reported on Tuesday.
During the heated exchanges, a Palestinian supporter shouted, “We gotta kill them all! We’re going to kill them all! You better leave our country! You better get out of there!” In response, pro-Israel protesters retorted, calling the demonstrators “terrorists” and used vulgar language. Another pro-Israel demonstrator yelled back, “They all need to die now! We need to protect Jews here and in America!”
Amid the chaos, individuals from both sides expressed their views. One protester, Jesse, argued that Hamas was defending Israeli-occupied Palestine, saying, “Fighting back isn’t terrorism.” He accused Israel of controlling and murdering, justifying Hamas’s actions as self-defense.
However, Karen Lichtbraun, a Jewish resident leading Yad Yamin New York, emphasized the need for Jewish self-defense, condemning Hamas as terrorists and likening their actions to war crimes similar to the Nazis. John McGuigan, attending the rally in solidarity, criticized Hamas as murderers and expressed his belief that Palestinians were not mistreated, questioning why they didn’t move to other Muslim countries.
As the protesters marched north, they ignored police warnings and blocked traffic. Outside the Egyptian Consulate, pro-Palestine demonstrators chanted, “Shame on you!” in response to Egypt’s attempted mediation between the warring factions.
Clashes in London too
Clashes erupted between groups of pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters at High Street Kensington Tube Station in London on Monday evening.
Police officers were deployed to diffuse tensions between supporters on opposing sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Videos circulating on various social media platforms depicted scores of police officers working to separate protesters at High Street Kensington Tube Station, especially as a pro-Palestine rally near the Israeli embassy became increasingly heated.
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned those supporting Hamas for the “appalling attack,” categorizing them as “terrorists.”
“The individuals backing Hamas are entirely accountable for this horrifying assault. They are not militants. They are not freedom fighters. They are terrorists,” Sunak stated in a post on X.
