[ad_1]

East Bengal overcame Gokulam Kerala 2-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Friday to book its place in the Durand Cup semifinal.

East Bengal took the lead within the first minute after a header by Naorem Mahesh following a short corner play was headed in expertly by Jordan Elsey.

Both the teams shared a few chances in a very even first-half but EBFC held on to maintain the lead at the half-time break. Gokulam captain Alex Sanchez came closest to scoring but his effort was well-saved by Prabhsukhan Gill.

In the second half, Aminou Bouba equalised for Gokulam following a cross in from the left by Abhijith.

But 12 minutes before the end, Bouba’s diving header inside his own box, following a Nishu Kumar cross found the back of the net whch gave East Bengal the lead.

The Red and gold brigade held on to its lead to secure a semifinal spot in the Durand Cup for the first time in four years.
